Scholarships
Each year, the Southampton Association Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to seven deserving Southampton High School graduating students who have plans for going onto college, have a gap between the costs of a college education and the resources otherwise available to them and have a track record of scholastic and extracurricular excellence, a commitment to community service and the potential for becoming leaders in their communities. We particularly seek opportunities to provide financial assistance to students for whom that assistance can change the trajectory of his or her life.
Over its 40 year life, the program has grown from one scholarship to seven and the amount of each award has increased in line with the inflation of college costs. We are proud to have one of the most powerful scholarship programs in Southampton and even prouder that a very large percentage of our recipients have succeeded as undergraduates and that many are now doing graduate work in a diverse spread of disciplines. We try very hard to stay involved with our scholarship recipients and we have provided some ad hoc support to those graduate school students whose continue to bear the burden of education costs.
Our scholarships are in four categories. The first, in honor of deceased Directors Arthur Schoen and Todd Goodwin, goes to two students and is $4,000 per year for four years. The second, in honor of deceased Director Faith Lovejoy, goes to one student and is $2,000 per year for four years. The third, the Achievement Award, goes to two students and is $2,000 for one year. And the fourth, in honor of Julie Kreymborg, goes to two students who have contributed greatly to local community service organizations and is $2,000 for one year. Julie was a 2021 recipient of an Achievement Award and died while a student at Holy Cross. We asked and her parents consented to our honoring Julie who was such a fine representative of everything good among Southampton High school students.
The Southampton Association Scholarship Program is a unique opportunity for us to do something important for our community while demonstrating our desire to give back to Southampton by supporting our young people.
