The historical First Presbyterian Church clock tower is Southampton Village’s most recognizable skyline feature. Built in 1843 the First Presbyterian Church is home to a historic hand wound clock installed in 1871. The church’s hand wound
clock stands at approximately 100 feet in the air and is one of the rarest clocks in the state which has not been moved since its installation in 1871. Presently the historical integrity of the church steeple and the hand wound clock are threatened by the proposed installation of cell antennas by Metro PCS in the tower. As part of Southampton Village’s historic district, the church is considered an individually significant structure. Our goal is to keep its historical integrity and make the hand wound clock run for another 150 years.
