Debates on January 16 and January 21 for Southampton Town Board Special Election

The Southampton Press will host a debate on Saturday, January 16, 1:00 PM at the Parrish Art Museum in Water Mill with Democrat Julie Lofstad and Republican Richard Yastrzemski. The event is free to the public and will be hosted by Press Executive Editor Joseph P. Shaw.

Topics will include water quality and planned development districts. The format allows for no time limits or red cards to give the candidates a chance to delve deeper into the issues. The conversation will be guided by Mr. Shaw, who will review questions submitted from various citizen groups before the event.

The audience will not be allowed to ask questions at the debate, but questions can be submitted in advance to mailbag@pressnewsgroup.com.

A debate sponsored by the League of Women Voters will take place Thursday, January 21, 7 PM at the Westhampton Free Library.  The format will include timed opening and closing statements from both candidates.  For more information write to lwvhamptons.org or call 631-324-4637.

The date of the Special Election is Tuesday, January 26.  If you are unable to vote in person, absentee ballots are available at suffolkvotes.com.  The process requires an absentee ballot application which gets filled out and returned to Suffolk County Board of Elections, followed by having a ballot mailed to you for completion.  Absentee ballots must be postmarked no later than January 25.
